In the coming months I hope to create a place where host families and au pairs can look to when they need answers. I want to help both the host families and au pairs to know whether this kind of set up is the right choice for them, and if it is how to go about finding the right match. I will talk about what it means to be an au pair, how to deal with sticky situations, knowing your rights, how an au pair can find new communities in their new home, general child care tips, and tips about and for host families as well.
If you learn and read nothing else from this site, know that the key to a good au pair/host family relationship is respect and understanding of one another and their culture. Heck be excited about the other's culture! Neither side can expect the other to make all of the concessions or it simply will not be a comfortable living environment.
